ACCREDIA Sole National Accreditation Body

[ 26.01.2009 ]

The Italian Government recognized ACCREDIA in compliance with EC Reg 765/2008.

All the relevant ministers have signed the two decrees regarding Law n° 99/2009 and Regulation (CE) 765/2008.

The decrees, which will be published in the official gazette, following legal registration, define the provisions that the sole Italian accreditation body must fulfil and they nominate ACCREDIA to perform this task, recognising its role as a public authority in the general interest.

The government shall notify the European Commission and EA of this decision.

ACCREDIA is a recognised association, consisting of seven ministries, seven major national administrations, all the main organisations of enterprises and many other interested parties.

The message of the President Federico Grazioli

The awaited event has arrived. ACCREDIA has officially become Italy's sole accreditation body, with the signature of the relevant ministers involved in accreditation activity.
Italy has therefore been able to respect the deadline under Regulation (EC) 765/08.
The process is therefore complete: it was initiated in 2002 when a memorandum of understanding was signed by all interested categories, and Minister Marzano defined the sole accreditation body as a point of qualification for Italian politics in favour of quality.

We must thank the government and, in particular, Minister Scajola and all the structure of the Ministry of Economic Development. The choice of recognising a private subject to undertake a role which EC regulation describes as "of public authority", is undoubtedly courageous but in no way a risk.

It is a choice which is approved of and supported, also by other Ministries which are already members of the body, by business organisations, by normative bodies, by operators of the conformity assessment system and by all other ACCREDIA members, by consumers and by consultants. We give our sincere thanks to everyone.

This achievement would not have been reached without the intelligence and determination with which the staff and administrators of SINAL and SINCERT, especially Professor Paoletti, planned and carried out the merger project.

The credibility created by the two bodies over time - both nationally and internationally - is a legacy which must not be wasted. It represents the foundation upon which a wider body can be built and in which other competencies which have created the history of Italian accreditation can play a role.
Collaboration and mutual support between the public and private sectors will increasingly be the modus vivendi of ACCREDIA. Transparency, independence and impartiality will be confirmed and strengthened. As it has been in the past, Italy's commitment to an international role will be sustained, for the benefit of enterprises and all interested operators.

We would like to send a message of willingness and cooperation to the ministries which have shown such significant faith in us. Within the context of EU regulations, ACCREDIA can act as the final link in guaranteeing the process of conformity assessment, in both the voluntary and mandatory sectors; ACCREDIA can combine operational efficiency with the guarantee of respect for association competencies, so that the quality of the Italian economic system is assured, recognised, and given the value it merits.
